A roof tent for your Land Rover Defender 90
What fits, what your Defender 90 can carry, and how the tent mounts. This is a guide, not engineering advice: your handbook and your rack maker's instructions come first.
Which size
Mini or Mid. The 90's roof is shorter than the 110's. The maker fitted the Mini (148 cm closed) in its own video; measure your rails before you choose the Mid (168 cm).
- The Mini: £1,599, sleeps 2 adults + 1 child, 148 × 118 cm closed
- The Mid: £1,799, sleeps 2 adults + 1 child, 168 × 123 cm closed
What the roof can carry
| On the move (dynamic) | up to 118 kg |
| Parked (static) | up to 300 kg |
| Our tents | the Mini 43 kg, the Mid 50 kg, plus 5 kg for the ladder |
Land Rover's UK figure for the 90. Land Rover says V8 models have no dynamic roof rating, so check the handbook for your car. The tent, its mount and anything else on the roof all count towards the limit.
How it mounts
In the maker's video the Mini goes on the Defender 90's factory roof rack. On a 90 with roof rails we have thin brackets made for its rails, as on our own 110.
Height
The maker measured the Defender 90 at 217 cm with the tent on its roof rack, and 215 cm on the maker's low brackets. Check your garage and the car parks you use.
Check your own car
Tell our assistant who is sleeping, your car and its roof load, or add a photo of the handbook page. You get a preliminary answer straight away, and we confirm before you pay anything more than the £99 refundable deposit.
